"projectDescription": "The Ulu May Wildlife Sanctuary is a natural lagoon surrounded by a man-made dike linked to canals originally created for mosquito control. This wildlife reserve has become home to the Brazilian pepper plant, an invasive species that has caused a domino effect of events. Brazilian pepper trees have overrun the shoreline and killed off native plants destroying important fish nursery habitat. In addition, the mangrove population has been decimated by this plant which has had a detrimental effect on the stability of shoreline sediment. Keep Brevard Beautiful, in partnership with the FishAmerica Foundation, the NOAA Restoration Center, and local volunteers eradicated invasive Brazilian Pepper trees from 33 acres of the Ulu May Sanctuary.",
