  "projectDescription": "This barrier island chain on the southeastern Louisiana coast lost considerable area in the 1998 Hurricane Georges as 100 washover channels cut through the island. A pilot planting project in spring 2000 was done to test the success rate and viability of smooth cordgrass plantings.  In the summer of 2001, over 70,000 plants were placed at various sites down the back barrier side of the island, representing the largest planting effort in the CWPPRA program to that time. Between 2001 and 2004, the plantings had increased in percent coverage and maintained diversity. Unfortunately, the passage of multiple hurricanes from 2002 to 2010 have weakened and destroyed the plantings.",
