  "projectDescription": "At one time, six species of seagrasses existed in Mississippi Sound.  However, a more recent survey located only two seagrass species. Thousands of acres have been lost due to hurricanes and other factors that altered the salinity of the sound. This project determined the feasibility of reestablishing Thalassia testudinum, a type of seagrass species, near Horn Island, Mississippi.  Volunteers transplanted seagrass to different areas in the sound and monitored their survival rates.",
