Almost 500 volunteers from the Coastal Conservation Association assisted in the clean-up program, transporting the abandoned traps to collection locations for transport to disposal sites throughout Texas. Aside from the benefits to crabs and other species, removing the abandoned traps has reduced user conflicts, such as entanglements in recreational boat propellers and shrimp trawls.",
