  "projectDescription": "This project will implement a detailed feasibility study at the Cherry Farms, located in the Upper Niagara River Corridor in New York State within the Niagara River Area of Concern. The project may also include production of engineering and design documents and permits suitable for the implementation stage of a restoration project at Cherry Farms. The feasibility study will evaluate and plan for the restoration of degraded emergent wetland, nearshore, and riverine habitat, along the east shore of the upper Niagara River and adjacent to Superfund site No. 915063. The goal for the first phase of this project is to evaluate options to improve nursery habitat, cover, and forage for fish, herpetofauna, waterfowl, secretive marsh birds, and macroinvertebrates. This feasibility study considers restoration options to potentially create fish spawning habitat, hemi-marsh habitat, and fish passage barrier removal along the shoreline. The feasibility project also includes stakeholder input through close collaboration with Audubon Great Lakes, the Town of Tonawanda, NYS DEC, and the landowner, National Grid. This project will address GLRI Action Plan III Focus Area I and IV measures of progress by ultimately implementing management actions necessary to remove beneficial use impairments and restoring or enhancing nearshore habitat on up to 10 acres of remnant wetlands and 2,500 ft. of shoreline along the east shore of the upper Niagara River in northwestern New York state.",
