  "projectDescription": "The Northwest Straits Marine Conservation Initiative's goal is to protect and restore the marine waters, habitats, and species of the Northwest Straits region to achieve ecosystem health and sustainable resource use through on-the-ground projects and community engagement. NOAA will fund the NW Straits initiative to conduct monitoring and research of indicator species, conduct outreach and education, and engage communities to facilitate conversations on environmental concerns, solutions, and stewardship at a local level. Funding will also support specific restoration projects through sub-awards such as Pinto abalone, Olympia oyster, and shoreline restoration and vegetation enhancement, and support specific protection projects such as establishing no-anchor zones to protect eelgrass and shellfish harvest. Sub-award activities may include derelict vessel removal and buoy installations.",
