"projectDescription": "This entry is one of 10 project sites included under the name \"Indian River Lagoon Habitat Restoration\".The Indian River Lagoon Council will implement a large-scale restoration in response to an urgent need to restore essential fish habitats, enhance ecosystem functions, and increase resilience in the Indian River Lagoon (IRL) on the Atlantic Coast of Florida. The overall project design integrates a multi-habitat and multi-site restoration approach that recognizes the complex spatial and temporal diversity of the IRL. The overall project includes a network of 10 discrete project sites and 15 individual projects that cumulatively include restoration and/or enhancement of seagrass (46 acres), oyster (6.5 acres), saltmarsh wetland (2,125 acres), and living shoreline (6,045 linear feet) habitats. The project will also re-introduce native clams (21 million) to enhance seagrass habitat. The ten individual projects will engage the community through site specific outreach events and volunteer opportunities. These projects will restore vital seagrass habitat lost at two historical seagrass sites. Restoration will utilize proven seagrass restoration techniques to plant, protect and maintain 22.8 acres of Halodule wrightii by planting 116,850 seagrass planting units and protecting them with 570 herbivory exclusion devices.",
