"projectDescription": "The Coquille Indian Tribe was awarded more than $4.2million to restore fish passage at four culvert and tide gate barriers in the Coquille River watershed. This will open significant habitat for threatened Oregon Coast coho, Coquille River fall Chinook, and Pacific lamprey species that are culturally important to the Coquille Indian Tribe and the community of Coos Bay. The work will help reduce the impacts of climate change by providing functioning floodplains and upgrading a major road and tsunami evacuation route. There are five projects entailing removal of 5 barriers (3 tide gate replacements, 1 culvert to bridge project, and 1 rock barrier removal) and funding of a cultural resource position. The Coaledo Tide Gate Replacement project entails replacing the existing failing tide gates with three 8x10x30 concrete box culverts each fitted with side-hinged aluminum tide gates, Muted Tidal Regulators (MTRs), and an adjustable aperture gate for additional water control. Construction was completed in October 2024. Permitting and design was completed prior to NOAA funding and leveraged funds from OWEB and other sources were used for construction. NOAA funding was used for inflationary costs associated with tide gate replacement, engineer costs, archaeological monitoring, as-built monitoring post-project, and continued landowner and community outreach.",
