"projectDescription": "The Greenwater River is located in the Upper White River watershed, which is part of the larger Puyallup/White River basin that eventually flows into the Puget Sound near the city of Tacoma. Its is host to the vast majority of White River spring Chinook, steelhead, coho salmon, and bull trout populations. A large area of the project is located on lands owned by the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe and managed as the Tomanamus Forest, a tribally-owned forest enterprise. Intensive road building and resource extraction that occurred between the 1940s and 1970s destroyed upland and valley bottom forests and severely impaired floodplain function. Restoration methods for the Greenwater River are directly focused on reversing the effects of past land use practices by removing legacy roads and culvert barriers and installing large wood jams to increase habitat complexity. In total, the proposed body of work in this project area will remove 1 linear mile of legacy road, remove 4 culvert barriers, and install 45 log jams to reconnect and re-engage floodplains and tributary confluences. These restoration actions aim to restore complex, anabranching channel forms in the Greenwater River.",
