  "projectDescription": "The Habitat Enhancement Design project in Hudson River Park's Estuarine Sanctuary addresses a pressing ecological challenge common to urban waterways: the lack of on-bottom hard substrate in near shore areas, which limits available habitat for aquatic species. These substrate-limited conditions hinder the survival of key estuarine organisms, including ecologically and economically significant species like the Eastern oyster and various finfish, including striped bass and sturgeon. Since 2021, Hudson River Park Trust has taken significant steps to design and install near shore habitat enhancements, deploying over 500 habitat structures seeded with 35 million juvenile oysters south of 14th Street, aimed at improving biodiversity and promoting ecosystem resilience. the Trust now plans to expand these efforts north of 14th Street, extending the environmental benefits across a broader area of the Sanctuary. The planned enhancements will provide critical habitat for estuarine species by offering shelter, feeding grounds, and breeding spaces, while also improving water quality and contributing to shoreline stability through nature-based solutions.",
