  "projectDescription": "A concrete erosion control mat protecting a major Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) L303 gas pipeline, blocks upstream and downstream fish passage on mainstem Alameda Creek between the San Antonio Creek confluence and Calaveras Dam. Alameda Creek is an essential watershed for CCC steelhead DPS recovery (NMFS 2016). Ocean-run adult steelhead have not had access to the upper watershed for more than 50 years. California Trout (CalTrout) will be leading this project and coordinating multiple stakeholders including SFPUC (landowners), DeSilva Gates Aggregates, Inc. (DeSilva; SFPUC Lessee), PG&E (pipeline owners), McBain Associates, Applied River Sciences (design), Hanford ARC (construction), and Alameda Creek Alliance (local non-profit). The project goals are: 1) Removal of the Er-Con mat that blocks fish passage and burial of PG&E gas pipeline; 2) Elimination of all 2 in-stream fish passage barriers within the project extent (L303 pipeline & Er-Con Mat); 3) Restoration of natural channel morphology 4) Achievement of cut-fill balance (no import or export of material) at the site; 5) Continued flood control; 6) Revegetation with native plants; 7) Opportunistic removal of invasive plant species; 8) Reaching disadvantaged youth through partnership with SFPUC Alameda Creek Watershed Center and building a relationship with the Muwekma Ohlone and incorporating TEK into the Alameda Creek Fisheries Work Group moving forward.",
