  "projectDescription": "The Nunn’s Mill Dam is located in the South Branch Raritan River, a popular destination for recreational trout fishing. The dam is well over 100 years old, and is at high risk of failure. Nunn’s Mill Dam creates a 2.5-acre sediment-laden, shallow impoundment that contributes to decreased water quality and high water temperatures in the summer months, detrimental to aquatic wildlife like trout. The Nunn’s Mill Dam Removal project will fund dam removal and associated restoration of the impoundment, helping restore cold-water trout habitat in downstream portions of the South Branch Raritan. Removal and restoration efforts will also help reduce local flooding, which will benefit homeowners and the local governments who maintain nearby roads and bridges.   Funding for the project was achieved through a Trustees Resolution made by the Cornell Dubilier Superfund Settlement Trustees Council. Funds from the DOI Account were disbursed to the NJDEP for the planning, engineering, and design of Nunn’s Mills Dam Removal.  NJDEP will use these funds for project management and to contract with an engineering consultant(s) to complete the following tasks: preparation of bid packages, technical studies, permit assessment and acquisition, cultural resource evaluation, conceptual design, feasibility report, construction cost estimate, and initial costs towards final design plans.",
