  "projectDescription": "The Coral Restoration Foundation will restore coral reef habitat in U.S. Virgin Islands. The project will focus on rebuilding populations of up to five Endangered Species Act-listed corals and five additional stony-coral species across multiple sites, including reefs associated with NOAA efforts. It will also use technologies and best practices from the Florida Keys—where practitioners are at the forefront of coral restoration—to help increase the capacity for coral restoration in Puerto Rico, developing and scaling up coral nursery infrastructure. Coral reef restoration supports coastal protection, fisheries, and recreation and tourism economies. The project’s outreach and education activities will engage student interns, and the local community by building on an established outreach program. This is one of three sites the Coral Restoration Foundation is restoring in the Caribbean with IIJA Transformational Funding.",
