"projectDescription": "This is one of several projects Trout Unlimited and Partners will carry out in the Beartrap-Nemadji watershed with individual barrier removal projects in the Little Bois Brule River and Red Cliff Creek-Frontal Lake Superior watersheds. The Brule River is renowned for its lake run species and brook trout migration has been recorded from Lake Superior into Chicago Creek. The proposed projects are the furthest known downstream barriers in each watershed. Two of the proposed implementation projects (Sandy Run and Chicago Creeks) are the only known barriers in each stream system. Each project stream contains high-quality habitat up and downstream from the project site. The barrier at Sandy Run Creek has significant damage in the interior of the culvert that is allowing water to start flowing around the outside of the pipe -- which threatens the integrity of the surrounding road. This barrier also creates significant fish passage concerns.",
