  "projectDescription": "At one time, the lower Lafourche delta was protected by various, naturally occurring coastal ridges which served as buffers between the Gulf and highly sensitive coastal wetlands.  Over the last one hundred years many of these ridges have disappeared, thereby exposing the highly vulnerable marshes to coastal erosion.  This project addressed these issues in three equal phases of construction.  In the first year of this project, three ridge segments were constructed with excess hydraulic dredge material generated by the Port's industrial expansion.  The ridge's segments each have a dimension of 1,000 feet in length, by 200 feet in width, and 8 feet in height, sloping to a 100-foot wide marsh fringe on each side.",
