"projectDescription": "The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and Huron Pines will replace three undersized culverts where the Thunder Bay River crosses Hossler Road in Montmorency County, Michigan. The current culverts force the river to flow at a high velocity, creating a barrier to fish passage and leading to erosion issues. Replacing it with a bridge will reconnect 20.2 miles of upstream habitat, help restore natural river function, reduce pollution, and improve local road infrastructure. This work builds on previous NOAA-funded work by Huron Pines to restore fish passage at four sites on Thunder Bay River tributaries. This project is one of several led by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and partners to restore fish passage in northern Michigan.",
