The project will open 3.25 miles of habitat for several migratory fish species, including American shad, river herring, striped bass, Atlantic sturgeon, and American eel.  It will also result in new recreational amenities such as public access to the river and expansion of the Deep River Trail. This project addresses the goals of the Cape Fear River Basin Action Plan for Migratory Fish, and is one of five projects that American Rivers is implementing in the Upper Cape Fear River and Lower Deep River that will result in the opening of approximately 100 miles of habitat.",
