"projectDescription": "The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla and their partners restored fish passage at two locations in the West Birch Creek Watershed within the Umatilla sub-basin. These two projects cumulatively restored access to 8 miles of high-quality, cool-water stream habitat used for spawning and juvenile rearing by ESA-listed steelhead. Strong partnerships enabled this work to move forward. Led by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Reservation and private landowners in rural Oregon, this project remediated an abandoned, unused irrigation structure known as Hascell Dam and replaced an undersized culvert on Stanley Creek with a bridge that improves. These West Birch Creek stream reconnection projects are two of nine fish passage projects that the Umatilla Tribe is working on to enhance habitat access, improve stream function, and reduce flood risk.",
