"projectDescription": "Trout Unlimited, Tillamook County, and their partners will collaborate to restore fish passage to 1.3 miles of Samson Creek, which is a tributary of the Trask River upstream of where it flows into Tillamook Bay. Before the project was implemented, the culvert where Samson Creek crosses Trask River Rd. was undersized, perched, and in very poor condition. It was a partial or full barrier to juvenile and adult fish depending on flows. Fish species, who will benefit include spring and fall Chinook, ESA-listed coho, and chum salmon, summer and winter steelhead, and sea-run cutthroat trout. Replacing the undersized culvert restored unimpeded access to anadromous fish and restored natural stream processes. This project is one of six projects that are part of a larger award called the Salmon Super Highway, which will restore fish passage to a total of 15.3 miles of habitat in the Tillamook and Nestucca watersheds by removing six barriers. All of these barriers inhibit natural stream processes and fish migration for ESA listed threatened Oregon Coast coho, Chinook, and chum salmon, steelhead and cutthroat trout, and several lamprey species.",
