This work will rebuild the previously existing natural first-line of defense against storm surge, waves, erosion, and rising sea levels. It will support habitats like marshes and seagrasses, which provide important nurseries and refuge for fish, shrimp, crabs, and more. Protecting the existing levee system from damage will in turn increase the resilience of homes and infrastructure in the local community.",
