"projectDescription": "The Pinoleville Pomo Nation (PPN) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will employ one full time and one part time position to lead development of 100% designs and permitting for approximately 3 acres of floodplain restoration on tribal lands in Ackerman Creek, tributary to the Russian River, CA. The project will benefit ecologically and culturally important California Coastal Chinook Salmon (T), Northern California Steelhead (T), and Western Pond Turtle (SSC). It will be designed to reduce flooding of the Pinoleville Pomo Nation community, with additional benefits to surrounding communities of Ukiah through flood water attenuation and groundwater recharge. The project includes development and implementation of 6 community workshops to share cultural and ecological knowledge and inform design development. The Pinoleville Pomo Nation will coordinate with nearby tribes including Mendocino, Lake, and Sonoma County tribal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) departments on workshops and restoration design development, and workshops will be open to these tribes as well as the adjacent community of Ukiah. The project design will include interpretive trails and seed collection areas, and will connect the existing community garden to the creek and PPN Head Start program building. The project will also provide training and educational opportunities to PPN tribal horticultural programs and local at risk youth through the YouthBuild program.",
