"projectDescription": "Old Essex Road, an active municipal roadway across the Castle Neck River in Ipswich and Essex, Massachusetts, will be completely removed, restoring natural water flow to the upstream salt marsh. This will create new salt marsh, eliminate infrastructure flood risk, and demonstrate the region's first significant example of removal of an unneeded roadway as a sea level rise adaptation strategy. This project will assist the regional Parker-Ipswich-Essex Rivers Restoration Partnership in its efforts to implement a suite of coastal habitat restoration priorities focused on improving fish habitat in the Great Marsh Area of Critical Environmental Concern. The award will also add staff capacity to manage active and plan future restoration projects in the region.",
