"projectDescription": "The Penobscot Indian Nation will eliminate five culvert and dam barriers within the East Branch of the Penobscot River along tributaries Mattamiscontis Stream and Birch Stream. This work will benefit Endangered Species Act-listed Atlantic salmon and other migratory fish species. The project will also build tribal capacity to manage and steward migratory fish resources by funding fishery biologist positions. Cumulatively, the work we propose will remove five passage barriers, make approximately 150 stream miles more accessible to migratory fish, improve access for alewives to 3,305 surface acres of lakes for spawning and rearing, and identify, survey, and design an additional five aquatic connectivity projects.Overall Award work includes field surveys, engineering, design, construction, and monitoring for 5 sites: Mattamiscontis Stream Access Road road-stream crossing, Sam Ayers Stream Dam, Sam Ayers Stream Ford, & Birch Stream Road-Stream Crossing Sites 1 & 2.",
