  "projectDescription": "The Harry Pursel Dam in Phillipsburg on the Lopatcong Creek was breached because it was classified as a Significant Hazard Structure. The dam represented the only impediments to the Lopatcong Creek. Approximately 300 cubic yards of sediment were removed from behind the spillway. The ogee spillway was partially demolished, and the downstream apron was penetrated to allow for a natural stream channel. The shoreline was stabilized in areas of current erosion and native vegetation was planted to promote long-term stabilization. The removal opened up 10 miles of additional spawning habitat for American shad and other migratory species.",
