"projectDescription": "Through a grant provided by NOAA's Community-based Restoration Program and Restore America's Estuaries, Tampa Bay Watch and 175 college students from around the country and staff from Hillsborough County cut down 2-3 acres of Brazilian pepper. Brazilian peppers in the Tampa Bay area are displacing mangrove forests at an alarming rate, which in turn is reducing vital coastal habitat for native wildlife. The stumps were treated with herbicide and the area was replanted with native vegetation to prevent regrowth.",
