  "projectDescription": "The Lower Black River Conservation project protects 477 acres of habitat connected to the Cape Fear River watershed in North Carolina. Kerr-McGee Restoration funds coupled with leveraged funds allowed for full acquisition of the almost 500-acre tract which will be managed as part of the Black River Preserve. The tract includes 445 acres of tidally influenced swamp forest and wetlands with 5.5 miles of frontage on the Black River, close to its confluence with the Cape Fear River. Conservation of this site via fee simple purchase was desirable due to its linkages to other conservation lands and its importance for anadromous fish species and benthic organisms.",
