  "projectDescription": "Several large agricultural operations on the lands surrounding the North River in Carteret Country, North Carolina, converted wetlands into cropland through draining and filling and surface runoff containing high levels of bacteria then decimated nearby oyster beds. This project restored 252 acres of cropland back to wetlands through the removal of a draininge system, resurfacing the land to mimic natural variation in elevation, and revegetation. This represents the largest effort to restore wetlands in North Carolina state history and one of the largest projects of its kind in the nation. Moving forward, a detailed monitoring plan established by personnel from the Duke University Marine Lab will help document the progress made through these restoration activities.",
