  "projectDescription": "This is one of multiple fish passage barrier removal/habitat restoration actions across the Rogue Basin to benefit Southern Oregon/Northern California coho salmon, which are listed as \"threatened\" under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).  The project was composed of the following actions: (1) Removal of Harboldt Dam, a 5’ x 50’ concrete channel spanning dam, which serves as a water intake structure for domestic, irrigation, and fish propagation uses for a private landowner, (2) removal of two smaller un-named structures on Welter Creek, a small tributary, approximately 300 feet downstream of Harboldt Dam, and re-shaping Welter Creek’s contour to more natural topography, (3) improved stream complexity and in-stream habitat by placement of large woody debris downstream of the existing dam removal footprint to allow for more natural accretion of bedload, post-structure removal, (4) establishment of new fish-friendly water intake point of diversion approximately 900’ downstream from the existing Harboldt Dam, and, (5) enhancement of the riparian area around the project site by replanting native riparian species to help hold the project in place. The removal of Harboldt Dam on Slate Creek and the two smaller structures on Welter Creek restored access to 15 miles of spawning and rearing habitat for coho and Chinook salmon and steelhead.",
