"projectDescription": "The Florida Aquarium will use sexual propagation methods to propagate corals in land based nursery and and growout the corals in ocean based nurseries before outplanting to the restoration sites. Over the project 4,250 A. palmata nursery grown corals (~ 12.5 x 12.5 cm or 160 cm2) will be outplanted on 1 m centers using epoxy to help restore 1,785 m2 of A. habitat across Horseshoe and Looe Key reefs. The corals to be outplanted will be a mix of novel genotypes from spawning crosses as well as unique genotypes existing within in-situ nurseries. The proposed project would have a direct and immediate impact over the next three years by outplanting A. palmata colonies representing 165 novel genets at Looe Key and Horseshoe reefs. Diadema urchins will be spawned and cultured at the land based facility until reaching adequate size and to then outplant 10,000 urchins at the selected reef restoration sites. The land based nursery currently houses a broodstock population of 13 adults collected from the Keys. Monitoring will be conducted of both corals and urchins in nursery and at outplanting sites to follow growth and condition.",
