  "projectDescription": "This project is part of a larger transformative effort to completely redesign and re-construct LaSalle Park into the new Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park (RCWJCP), on the Niagara River in the City of Buffalo, New York. The Niagara River was declared an Area of Concern in the late 1980’s due to a number of issues including loss of fish and wildlife habitat. In 2019, the Niagara River Remedial Action Committee designated RCWJCP as a priority habitat site to be protected and restored. This project aims to create shallow water habitat in an area dominated by hardened shorelines. Target outcomes of the project include the protection and restoration of up to 5 acres of submerged aquatic habitat, including 2,500 linear feet of softened shoreline, deep water channels, and fish enhancement structures. This newly created wetland ecosystem will directly contribute to delisting the Niagara River Area of Concern. Through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, NOAA has provided funding and technical guidance to support the design and construction of this project.",
