"projectDescription": "The Potter Hill Dam, a 8-foot high structure, is the last significant physical barrier to fish passage on the mainstem on the Pawcatuck River, a river that was designated as a federal Wild and Scenic River in 2019. The Pawcatuck River watershed is a 307-square mile, high quality watershed in southwestern Rhode Island and portion of southeastern Connecticut. Dam removal will restore unrestricted migratory fish passage to 30 miles of the mainstem river, 83 miles of tributaries for use by river herring and American shad and 3,072 acres of spawning and rearing ponds for alewife and rearing for American eel. NOAA Year 1 funding addresses supplemental assessment and design tasks. Year 2 addresses final design and project implementation, Year 3 addresses remaining project implementation and monitoring.",
