"projectDescription": "Along the Lower Elk River, invasive plants are a substantial limiting factor in establishing a health riparian corridor. The Elk River Strategic Action Plan prioritized riparian restoration as a strategy to improve water quality, which is a factor limiting the recovery of Southern Oregon Northern California coho salmon. The project included inventorying and mapping riparian areas that need to be treated. Once the priority sites were inventoried, invasive plant species were removed and replaced with native vegetation.Approximately 48 acres of gorse and English ivy were treated on National Forest land, and 31 acres on State and private land between RM 9 and RM 14 along the Elk River mainstem. Port Orford Cedar (resistant to Phytophthora lateralis) was planted on 785 acres. A mix of native riparian species was planted on 18 acres of residential land between RM 9 and RM 14 on the Elk River mainstem.",
