  "projectDescription": "The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe's Office of Economic Development (OED) seeks to construct a public access site along the St. Regis River in Akwasasne. The project phase completed in 2021 included a site assessment, conceptual design and preliminary cost estimate to modify a defunct hydropower building on the east side of the river, by installing paths and dock along the river, as well as restoring the riverbanks where the Hogansburg dam was removed. During 2022-2023, the St. Lawrence River Environment Trustee Council (SRMT) worked collaboratively with the OED to refine the project conceptual design, and to partition as two projects: West and East Bank project. The focus of the refined design in 2022-2023 is the westside of the river,  Skén:nen Art Park West. The St. Regis River - Skén:nen Art Park West Project is to compensate the public for ecological injuries and lost recreational fishing and tribal uses (St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, Akwesasne cultural losses) losses resulting from hazardous substance releases by restoring streambank habitat and public access to and uses of the St. Regis River, and providing economic, cultural, educational, and recreational benefits to the Akwesasne community.The east side of the river public access and restoration project is expected be addressed in 2024-205.",
