  "projectDescription": "The Elk River is a relatively steep watershed with a naturally small estuary. Past land use has severely simplified the estuarine, lower mainstem, and floodplain (wetlands/tributaries) habitats. For these reasons coho are predominately limited by a lack of winter rearing habitat in the Elk River watershed, and to a lesser extent, the quality summer rearing and migration habitat in the Elk mainstem. Stream bank erosion at the project site was preventing the establishment of a riparian reserve and contributing fine sediment to the river, and the project reach had been generally void of complex instream habitat.  The project restored approximately 3.64 acres of floodplain and stream habitat and 2.9 acres of riparian habitat by sloping back the stream bank, placing large wood, and planting native vegetation.",
