  "projectDescription": "To compensate for injuries to sea turtles resulting from the 1993 Tampa Bay oil spill, the Trustee Council provided funds to the Egmont Key Alliance to establish the island as an index nesting beach to support sea turtle recovery efforts.  To standardize the nesting survey effort, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) began the Florida Index Nesting Beach Surveys (INBS).  The program developed specific standardized protocols to guide nesting beach survey efforts on selected beaches.  Egmont Key was proposed to the Trustee Council because the west coast of Florida is underrepresented in the INBS program and Egmont Key represented a relatively active nesting beach with few human-related nesting beach disturbances. The Trustee Council provided funds to the project sponsor to cover the first 5 years of a required ten-year commitment to data collection.",
