"projectDescription": "Little Portage Wildlife Area is a 407-acre coastal wetland and upland complex located at the confluence of the Portage and Little Portage Rivers in Ottawa County, Ohio, approximately 3.8 miles from Lake Erie. Little Portage is a popular public use area and managed to provide coastal wetland and upland habitat for wildlife and outdoor recreation. Currently, it is not possible to manage water levels and aquatic vegetation in the wetlands because the water control structures and pump are completely non-functional, resulting in a significant decline in the quality of the habitat. Ducks Unlimited (DU) and Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife (ODOW) are designing a restoration project, which will eventually lead to a shovel-ready project that will improve water quality through the diversion of up to 406 acres of agricultural drainage into wetlands while restoring hydrologic exchange and management capability to approximately 225 acres of coastal wetland habitat at Little Portage Wildlife Area.",
