  "projectDescription": "The North Carolina Coastal Federation enhanced an existing living shoreline adjacent to privately owned land on the Pamlico Sound-facing side of Durant’s Point Island, located just west of Hatteras Harbor, NC. To combat erosion, a granite sill was installed in 2012. This living shoreline protects the island that serves as a natural buffer between the Sound and the Harbor. Supplemental planting of salt marsh grass along a 330-linear-foot section of shoreline will help to accelerate re-vegetation along this exposed area. This project was constructed to: create habitat for eastern oysters (Crassostrea virginica); prevent additional loss of salt marsh; restore fish habitat; and provide benefits to water quality.",
