"projectDescription": "The North Carolina Coastal Federation built a living shoreline adjacent to publicly owned land on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway at the mouth of Mary’s Creek, in the Lumber River watershed, on the mainland side of the Town of Sunset Beach. The site has experienced erosion due to boat wakes, storms, and sea level rise. This project involved the construction of a 280 linear-foot living shoreline built from bagged oyster shells, bagged marl, concrete oyster domes, and salt marsh grass plantings. The living shoreline protects the Waterfront Park and adjacent properties, and restored 0.05 acre of oyster habitat and 0.12 acre of salt marsh. NOAA supported the planning and assessment phase of this project.",
