"projectDescription": "The Mendocino Coast Hydrologic Unit – Phase 4 project is the fourth of four related projects to install instream wood on core recovery coho streams along the Mendocino Coast. TU in partnership with industrial timberland owners, CA State Water Resources Control Board, CA State Parks, Cal Fire, and NOAA Restoration Center will restore critical CCC coho salmon habitat by improving water quality and instream conditions. The Little North Fork (LNF) Big River - Phase II and Manly Gulch Large Wood Augmentation Project (Mendocino Coast Hydrologic Unit - Phase IV), introduced 72 large wood pieces along 1.5 miles of priority core recovery habitat (1.25 miles on LNF Big River and 0.25 miles on Manly Gulch) for Central California Coast (CCC) coho salmon (a NOAA Species in the Spotlight) and steelhead trout. This will increase stream complexity and shelter values while simultaneously improving pool frequency and depth. This effort will help maintain the geographic distribution of coho salmon in a system with historically strong populations of coho salmon and identified biological refugia.",
