"projectDescription": "This project in the Pescadero Marsh Nature Preserve, restored the connectivity of Butano Creek through Butano Marsh to Pescadero Creek lagoon to re-establish 8.6 miles of severely impaired fish passage between the marsh and the watershed. The project also reduced the likelihood of recurring fish kills by enhancing circulation of freshwater and restoring marsh habitat and improve public safety by reducing flooding of Pescadero Road and adjacent private property. The site is owned by the California Department of Parks and Recreation (State Parks), and is located near the town of Pescadero, California in San Mateo County.",

"description": "Project provided fish passage by dredging 8,000+ feet of creek thereby also reducing flood risk at Pescadero Road Bridge (San Mateo County west of the town of Pescadero, CA). Pescadero Creek Road flooded multiple times a year for the 20 years prior to the project, with flooding at Butano Creek getting worse annually, creating longer and more frequent inundation periods, and impacting public health, safety and the local economy. Since the project was installed, Butano Creek has not flooded Pescadero Creek Rd at all (statement from Winter 2021), even during a May 2019 event when Butano Creek was flowing over its banks and onto Pescadero Creek Road, 6 weeks after the last major rain event.",
