  "projectDescription": "The project site is made up of four former salt evaporation ponds within the Ravenswood complex of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The Ravenswood Restoration Project (RRP) will restore 632 acres of former salt evaporation ponds in the South San Francisco Bay to a mix of estuarine tidal marsh, ecotone levee slope, and managed pond habitat as part of the 15,100-acre South Bay Salt Ponds (SBSP) Restoration Project, the largest restoration project on the West Coast. The project will result in measurable habitat improvements, such as restored wetland and channel habitats, greater habitat connectivity, and improved protection to Bay communities in the face of extreme weather and changing environmental conditions, as well as increased wetland capacity to persist under a broad array of sea level rise projections. The project will create 280 acres of estuarine habitat with a longer term goal of marsh restoration, reconnect 6.5 miles of historic slough channels to the San Francisco Bay, improve existing levees for flood protection and create 15 acres of wetland to upland transition slope, enhance 337 acres of managed pond habitat, and add a half mile of new public access trail with a viewing platform and interpretive elements.",
