  "projectDescription": "Ocean Ranch is a unit of the Eel River Wildlife Area in Humboldt County, California. Ocean Ranch in its entirety comprises 933 acres with a diverseset of habitats including, coastal dunes, riparian woodlands, tidal mudflats, tidal slough channels, and salt and freshwater marshes. The Ocean Ranch Restoration Project (ORRP) will restore and expand natural estuarine and coastal dune functions in over 800 acres of the Eel River estuary for the recovery and enhancement of native species and habitats, including estuarine and listed fish, invertebrates, wildlife, and special-status plants. The once historic salmon fishery of the Eel River has been reduced due to extensive diking and agricultural activities leading to loss of 90% of the former floodplain. The project will restore 473 acres of functioning tidal wetlands and 329 acres of coastal dunes in the Eel River estuary, which will aid in the recovery of listed fish and special status species. The project will also support regional efforts to manage the spread of invasive species and enhance public recreational opportunities with new parking, trails, and a boat ramp.",
