  "projectDescription": "The Beaver Brook at Beaver Lake, Village of Mill Neck, NY had been outfitted with a dam for many decades resulting in the creation of a large recreational lake. Residential and migratory fish had no access to the creek or lake until a mechanical fishway was installed at the lake near Horseshoe Rd  and Cleft Rd in Mill Neck east of Oyster Bay. The Mattiace Petrochemical Natural Resources Damage Trustees Council made a contribution of $42,200 towards the construction of the fish ladder. The Nature Conservancy was awarded Long Island Sound Future Fund money towards fish passage plan development and implementation for three sites in Connecticut and New York. The site in New York is the spillway on Beaver Lake that impedes passage to and from the brackish Mill Creek. The grant provided money to develop plans for a fish ladder and apply for the necessary construction permits. Additional funds were needed to meet the cash requirement for installation of the planned fish ladder. The Mattiace Trustees Council drafted an addendum to the Restoration Plan in order to make $42,200 available for the project in addition to the $298,236 already secured.",
