"projectDescription": "The Hempstead Harbor Cove Wetland Restoration was a >.2 acre project designed to enhance the existing wetland habitat, primarily by controlling invasive species Phragmites australis at the site of an earlier 2003 Restoration Center project of the same name (aka Bar Beach). The habitat is similar to the habitat that was injured at the Mattiace Petrochemical Superfund Site and located in reasonable proximity to the Mattiace Site, There are concerns about the success of the project given that invasive species management has been performed at this site before somewhat unsuccessfully. In addition to invasive species the site is subject to erosion from wind currents and boat wakes. In addition to invasive plant management the project expanded the marsh by placing additional sand substrate at the eroding toe and employed jute fabric (erosion control cloth) and new plantings.",
