  "projectDescription": "NOAA Restoration Center has provided funding for facilitation, and technical assistance to the Snohomish Sustainable Lands Strategy beginning in 2011.  This involved development of strategic plans, development of GIS resources to evaluate fish, farm and flood needs and risks.  With SLS leadership, Snohomish County completed four reach scale plans by the County, and conservation partners started the Stillaguamish Valley Protection Initiative, leveraging over $1M of farm bill resources to reduce development in agricultural floodplains.  We began exploratory work to enhance habitats in local drainage districts, and several spinoff restoration efforts.  Projects are now underway in the Lower Stillaguamish valley, the Sultan Reach of the Skykomish Valley, within the Confluence zone in Tualco Valley, and around Ebey Island in the Snohomish Estuary.  These efforts aim to broaden support for habitat restoration, but integrating the needs of local farm communities and flood hazard management into integrated floodplain management strategies.  This work is part of a set of regional experiments in integrated flood management, supported by NOAA Restoration Center and its partners in the Floodplains by Design network.",
