  "projectDescription": "This project benefits the South-Central California Coast Distinct Population Segment of steelhead trout in Pennington Creek, a tributary to Chorro Creek, which flows into Morro Bay in San Luis Obispo County. The project removed a fish ladder installed in the 1990s which acted as a barrier during low and high flows. Removal of the fish ladder provides steelhead with access to 2.3 miles of critical spawning and rearing habitat in Pennington Creek. This project also modified a water diversion that dates back to 1920s. The diversion structure owned and operated by the Rancho El Chorro Outdoor School was modified to be protective of flows and steelhead critical habitat by passively ensuring a minimum bypass flow of 0.24 cfs and diverting based on a percentage of streamflow.",
