"projectDescription": "Each nursery currently has approximately 1,500-2,000 colonies of A. palmata and A. cervicornis. Combined, they have the capacity to outplant up to 16,000 corals annually while maintaining the nursery stocks at current capacity. No additional coral collection is needed for the nurseries since they produce enough coral tissue in situ for both outplanting and restocking. Each year coral outplants will be transplanted from the nurseries to reefs impacted by groundings or other physical impacts to aid in the restoration of the damaged reefs or transplanted to reefs where populations were once prevalent but have declined in the past few decades because of disease outbreaks and/or bleaching events to assist in the recovery of the coral populationsDuring outplanting, corals with different genotypes will be clustered together to increase the chances for sexual reproduction of these species in the field. As mentioned previously, there has been a reduction in genetic connectivity for these species. The establishment of “reproductive thickets” may help increase connectivity in some areas (Lirman, 2010). Multiple restoration sites outplanted with CRCP funding over the last three years now have fully functioning and self-sustaining thickets. These sites serve as seed areas for the surrounding reef and continuing to expand without intervention. Additionally the restored sites have increased abundance and diversity of fish compared reference sites.",
