  "projectDescription": "The Willow Bend Preserve is located inside the levee system along the Sacramento River.The objectives of this restoration project are: 1) To abate an existing fish stranding hazard on the floodplain of the Sacramento River; 2) To increase the time of inundation following a natural flood event,mimicking historical floodplain conditions; and 3) To restore high-quality floodplain rearing habitat for the benefit multiple listed Central Valley anadromous fish species, including Central Valley steelhead, spring-run Chinook, and critically endangered Sacramento River Winter-run Chinook salmon. A second phase of this project- \"The Willow Bend Side Channel Restoration Project\" funded in 2020 will reconnect a side channel to the Sacramento River to restore habitat for several runs of anadromous salmonids by removing two man-made obstructions within the side channel. The southern half of the property where this funding will be applied includes a 3,400-foot-long relic side channel that is currently blocked by two man-made features that not only limit access to fish life, but also entrap threatened and endangered salmon runs after high flow events subside. The proposed project will reconnect the side channel allowing water and juvenile salmon to access 3,400 linear feet of side channel that will flow through a mature riparian forest during annual high flow events on the Sacramento River.",
