  "projectDescription": "The Town of Harwich, in partnership with the Town of Chatham, Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration (DER), and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) restored 55.3 acres of tidal wetlands in Muddy Creek by replacing two existing undersized 3-ft stone culverts with a 94-foot long single span bridge and 22-foot trapezoidal channel. The bridge and channel restored natural tidal exchange to Muddy Creek, strengthening coastal ecosystem and community resiliency to extreme weather events and changing environmental conditions.  The project improved salt marsh and coastal wetland health, enhanced sediment delivery to the marsh surface, improved water quality, and controlled invasive species. Improved water quality and wetlands health will, in turn, improve habitat for Managed and Listed species (including American eel, blueback herring, winter flounder, and forage species).",
