  "projectDescription": "In 2016, a nature-like fishway was constructed at the outlet of South Branch Lake on land owned by the Penobscot Indian Nation, providing access to 2,035 acres of spawning habitat for alewife and passage for other species such as American eel. The fishway replaces an old embankment dam in poor repair. South Branch Lake drains to Mattamiscontis Stream, a tributary of the Penobscot River. Partners in the project included NOAA, the Penobscot Indian Nation, Atlantic Salmon Federation, The Nature Conservancy, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Maine Department of Marine Resources.",
